What is scampi?

Scampi is the tail meat of a langoustine, a highly prized crustacean harvested from the waters around the British Isles. The wholetail scampi is the best part and what you’ll find served at Poppies Fish & Chips.

Where did it originate?

Scampi originated in Italy, however, the Italians sautéed the langoustines in olive oil, garlic, and herbs. British chefs later took the Italian scampi, but instead breaded and deep-fried them, resulting in the scampi we know today.

How is it prepared?

Here at Poppies Fish & Chips, our langoustines are sustainably caught, with the shells removed to extract the whole tail meat. We then coat the raw tails in our signature batter, before flash frying until the coat is crisp and golden.

What can you eat scampi with?

Since the 1970s, the go-to side dish with scampi in British pubs and chippies has always been chips, but these days customers often switch out the staple with a variety of sides. Scampi pairs perfectly fine with salads, roast veggies, pasta, and even garlic bread.
