Half a century on, with decades of experience behind him, ‘Pop's’ Patrick Newland founded his own fish and chip shop in Spitalfields.
Lending his name to the first branch of Poppie’s the shop is filled with retro memorabilia from Pop’s childhood.

The produce is as good as it gets. The Billingsgate-sourced fish is filleted on site and so fresh that diners are offered the option of having it grilled as well as fried. Extending beyond the expected cod and haddock, the menu encompasses mackerel, seafood platters and jellied eels.

Poppies are known to be a cut above. The winning formula has earned us cult-status. A combination of ethical awareness, care and precision, mixed with decades of experienceand a hefty dose of East End charm.
