Fish N Kicks

Poppies set the London sneaker scene on fire by teaming up with the hotshot OG Kicks to celebrate the opening of their flagship London store in the vibrant streets of Soho.

Originally from the breezy shores of Brighton, they flipped the script, bringing the best of the seaside right into the heart of the bustling city. We created a playful nod to their delectable fish dishes and the freshest sneaker drops in town. They shot an ad at the iconic Poppies Soho takeaway joint, blending the sizzle of street fashion with the aroma of their famous fish specialties.

That wasn’t all, they had a weekend pop-up extravaganza that had the town talking. Every savvy customer who ordered the much-hyped ‘OG Special’ from the takeaway snagged a golden ticket, unlocking exclusive surprises. From t-shirts and discounts to the hottest kicks in the game, the prizes had the crowd buzzing.

Easter Egg Hunt

We had a special treat for customers who dined with us over the Easter weekend…

Legend has it that each year, the Easter Bunny pays a visit to hide special eggs in all sorts of places for well-behaved children to find. Luckily for us, lured by our fish and chips, he hopped over to Poppies for lunch and while enjoying his meal, hid some of his special eggs in our restaurants. Each morning over the Easter weekend, colourful Easter eggs were hidden in all three of our restaurants containing a reward to be enjoyed there and then. Those lucky enough to find one, opened it up to reveal their prize – free drinks, desserts, discounts off the bill and even a £100 gift card were up for grabs! What an ‘egg’cellent Easter treat!

Eat Like A King

Poppies participated in the King’s Coronation weekend festivities by extending an invitation for guests to ‘eat like a King’ with ‘golden’ chip forks given out to those who ordered a serving of Poppies fish and chips to take away.

The promotion was available to everyone who visited the Poppies Soho takeaway at 55 Old Compton Street on Saturday, May 6th. Those who shared a photo of their golden fork on Instagram, tagging @popsfishnchips and using the hashtag #EatLikeAKing, were automatically entered into a draw to win a sterling silver chip fork—a possession that even King Charles III would envy. Three winners were randomly selected from all qualifying posts and announced on Poppies’ Instagram platform.

Amy Winehouse Celebration

In September, we had the privilege of enjoying a very special live ‘Fish & Gigs’ performance by Laura Jane Butler, a dedicated tribute act to the legendary Amy Winehouse, on what would have been Amy’s 40th birthday. Camden has a unique connection to Amy Winehouse who lived there, performed there regularly and left an undeniable mark on the area’s music scene. The acclaimed British singer and songwriter, known for her soulful voice and her blend of jazz, soul and R&B, was celebrated in an evening of joy and nostalgia. With Amy’s family in the front row, Laura Jane Butler delivered a heartfelt performance that resulted in a night of singing and dancing in honour of the wonderful ‘Camden Queen.’ Fish & Gigs nights happen on the first Friday of each month in Poppies Camden from 7,30pm. Book a table and enjoy delicious fish and chips with an incredible live backing track.

2i’s Coffee Bar

Did you know that our Soho restaurant at 59 Old Compton Street was once the renowned 2i’s Coffee Bar, a coffeehouse that was the birthplace of British rock & roll during the late 1950s. The 2i’s Coffee Bar was a vibrant hub for Soho’s hip crowd. Upstairs, it served coffee and sandwiches, while its basement was home to a small stage with space for an audience of around 80 people. This was where talent scouts came to seek out emerging and gifted artists. It was at the 2i’s that notable talents like Tommy Steele and Cliff Richard were first discovered changing the landscape of rock & roll in Britain forever! Today we like to think the place is still dedicated to ensuring people have a good time and we’ve kept plenty of nods to its rich musical history with a 2i’s neon sign in the style of its original logo, vintage records, musical instruments and photographs of rock & roll legends lining the walls. We also saved a piece of the original wall painted by songwriter and musical composer Lionel Bart when he was a waiter there – see if you can spot it next time you visit.
